Therapy
My Approach
These are some of the aspects of my approach to counselling and psychotherapy. Rather than being seen as techniques that are applied, this approach is one of interconnecting disciplines that weave together uniquely for each person over the course of the therapy.

Creative
Creativity in the therapy room is about responsiveness in the moment. An image ,dream or association may provide a portal to hidden or unconscious feelings. There is also space for working with drawing, objects or movement.
Relational
With empathy and non-judgement as the foundation, our therapeutic relationship itself has the capacity to bring insight to your relations with others, and the potential to contain powerful emotions that need expression.

Embodied
From the perspective that body and mind are interconnected, psychological distress may co-arise with physical tension and chronic illness. Mindful awareness, focusing and felt sense supports attunement to the embodied psyche.
Theoretical
Exploration of both conscious and unconscious patterns, through using a range of theoretical frameworks; Jungian, archetypal, psychodynamic, developmental and attachment theory, and Gestalt, within a socio-cultural context.

Trauma aware
Trauma, whether from early developmental life experiences or adulthood, affects each individual differently. Neuroscience supports my approach to working with the impact of trauma and dissociation, whilst preventing re-traumatisation.
Soulful
Bearing the unknown and letting go of fixing symptoms, opens up the potential for meaning-making of experience. Soul might whisper through poetry or myth, and if we listen together, there is the possibility for transformation.

Soul is ineffable, it remains a complete mystery…preferring to live “between the worlds”. The soul, like quicksilver, slips away as soon as we try to grasp it with language.
